Kena’an Kinnui (Inktober Day 6)

Kena'an Kinnui is the pronoun.

Kena’an Kinnui is the pronoun among the parts of speech. He is a battlefield brawler who deals crippling blows with his large fists and concussive gloves. His maneuvers are based on the כני shoresh root and יכן shoresh family.

In many ways, Kinnui is a man of mystery who wears a balaclava and a spy camera. He works under many aliases, and he mimics his targets while manipulating them with weaponized speech.

While he associates with the Holy Tongue Society as a colleague, some members doubt his allegiance, given his vulgar, boorish nature. Only time will tell whether he is friend or foe…

Elisheva’ Sheëlah (Inktober Day 5)

Elisheva' Sheëlah is the interrogative.

Elisheva’ Sheëlah represents the interrogative part of speech. She loves to sow confusion among her victims and fill their minds with doubt, thanks to her book of questions. She also is a pro interrogator with ties to the criminal underworld — and rumor has it, the real one!

With her pleading puppy-dog eyes, Sheëlah is a greedy girl who gets what she wants, often justifying her thievery as “borrowing.” Her large debts form an actual ball and chain around her ankle, but her rope skills make escape a quick climb away. A tamarisk branch rests in her question mark cap.

Will Sheëlah renounce her doubts, find faith and join the Holy Tongue Society?

Shalhevet Shelilah (Inktober Day 3)

Shalhevet Shelilah is the negation.

Shalhevet Shelilah is the third character in our 2020 Inktober series. She represents the negation part of speech and will eventually be a second-tier character.

Shelilah is a boisterous contrarian who often thinks negatively, even to the point of making no sense. She wears “no” figuratively on her sleeve and literally on her shirt. Because she feels deprived, she loves to loot, pillage and steal. However, she’s had no luck finding shoes or clothes besides her loosely stitched ones. Her favorite weapons are chains.

Will Shelilah say “no” to chaos and destruction when she eventually meets the Holy Tongue Society? Or will she remain an opponent to the end?

Inktober Day 1: Millah Millit

Millah Millit is the particle in the Holy Tongue Society.

Meet Millah Millit, my first Inktober sketch of 2020. Based on the מלל shoresh root, she is a core member of the Holy Tongue Society who represents the particle among the parts of speech. She is a spontaneous chatterbox who is innocent, naive and likes to dress like a frilly magical girl — while wielding a giant knife that imposes critical damage on men. She has a talking dumpling as a sidekick.

Millah will appear later in Issue #3. Look forward to more Inktober characters in the days ahead!

Inktober Day 2: The Fire Pliers Pilferer

For the second day of Inktober, I made another generic bad guy: The Fire Pliers Pilferer!

This pilferer belongs to a group of former farmers who were born with sticky fingers instead of a green thumb. His pliers burst into flames to ward off anyone who wants to take back what he acquires.

The pilferer’s shoresh root is לקח, which carries connotations of taking, acquiring and catching fire. If you mix the letters, you get definitions for agriculture among other things.

I’m not sure when this character might appear in “Milhamah.” I can’t really see him or his fellow members being directly tied to Bavel. The macrostructure obsesses too much with its own absurd conception of order.

But maybe the pilferers could appear in a farmland world around ‘Ever, where Ḥeleq might have a safe house. Part of the fun of making new characters is expanding the possibilities for your creative world!
