Milhamah video game in production

A Milhamah video game is in the works! Over the past few weeks, I’ve started to lay the foundations of a “Milhamah: Fighting Words” video game using the Godot game engine. The game is rough right now — Shem is the only playable character, and the Guf soldiers are the only enemies. And most of the background stuff comes from past handmade assets that likely won’t appear in the released version. But it’s fun to smack the Guf guys around, and it’s got to start somewhere! I’m hoping to make a playable app and online version by Christmas. And once the initial game is released, I hope to build upon it over the next several months…

Amirah Meimrah (Inktober Day 31)

Is Amirah Meimrah the peacekeeper the world needs? Amirah Meimrah is a mysterious foreign leader from the treetop summit of Emirut. Based on the אמר shoresh root and family, she has exceptional sonic speech powers. She can emit fire and even sublimate her body into vapor. She carries a knife and a treetop martial arts staff, though nobody has seen her them in combat. The nations proclaim Meimrah to be a noble peacemaker. With a tall frame and ladylike demeanor, she is a bold orator who inspires many to sacrifice for the greater good. But a few critics say that she — behind the scenes — is rebellious, defiled and an arrogant, condescending snob. Will she prove herself a messiah who can end a global war… or leave things a mess?

Ḥamuṭal Teḥillah (Inktober Day 30)

Ḥamuṭal Teḥillah is the prefix. Ḥamuṭal Teḥillah, the linguistic prefix, is a bundle of energy who cosplays as a kitty while fighting for the ‘Ivrit Revival Movement. Don’t let her kawaii looks fool you. She’s not afraid to earn some bandages, get dirty and prove that she’s better than a second-string rookie. Based on the חתל shoresh root and family, her fighting style relies on slash attacks and firing speedy ammo. She loves to take initiative and claw her way to the battle’s front lines. Though she becomes a scaredy-cat when she bites off more than she can chew. When she isn’t fighting, she burrows into her wardrobe and wraps herself in the latest fashion.

Sa’ar Teres and Sartan (Inktober Day 29)

Sarṭan and Sa'ar are a dangerous pair! Sa’ar Ṭeres is a Violator who slaps the ‘Ivrit Revival Movement in the face by joining Beli Ya’al’s Kittim force. He’s an ex-media official gone bad, and his camera now crafts propaganda to smear the Revival. His large left hand delivers powerful backhands! In this picture, Ṭeres rides Sarṭan, who represents Cancer on the Bavel Macrostructure’s Linguistic Imperialism Division. Sarṭan nimbly crab-walks and causes grievous injuries with his carcinogenic claws. One of them is a razor-sharp clapperboard. These characters come from the סרט shoresh root or its broader family, which deals with film, cancer, crabs, slapping, sides and more.

Catchword Guard (Inktober Day 28)

The Catchword Guard monitors, surveys and preserves Bavel’s grip on ‘Ir Risshum and sometimes beyond. Many station themselves at guard booths dotted throughout the city. Many of the Catchword Guards used to be linguistic conservatives in the Descriptivist-Prescriptivist War, as they wanted to preserve the memories of the old tongues. Now their job is to quietly stalk and persecute Bavel’s dissenters, as well as systematically destroy documents and records of the past. Despite this, most of the ‘Ir Risshum public tolerates the guards due to their reputations as good Samaritans. The guards are based on the שמר shoresh root and family, having to do with guarding and protecting. Their standard uniform consists of a surveillance camera and a colander-style helmet decorated with a fennel emblem. Their weapon is a pencil-shaped rapier with an abrasive emery tip. Many guards carry documents and lists to track down their targets, and some also tote a vacuum flask and preserved rations for long shifts.
